2023 RISK MAP-A-THON
TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION CENTERS
The “temporary accommodation centers” are an interdisciplinary initiative that combines architecture with emergency management and humanitarian aid. This project focuses on the planning and development of spaces that not only meet architectural standards, but also adhere to minimum humanitarian standards and universal accessibility criteria. These efforts have been developed in close collaboration with the General Secretariat for Risk Management of the Metropolitan District of Quito (SRG), the International SEK University, and the College of Architects of Ecuador.
INFORMATION COLLECTION AND DIAGNOSIS
PLANIMETRIC SURVEY
PHASE 1
The first phase consisted of the planimetric survey of four operational centers within the city of Quito (Los Chillos, Tumbaco, La Delicia, Calderón), which aim to house people who are in emergency situations. These surveys allow us to obtain detailed and accurate information about the spatial arrangement and physical characteristics of these existing facilities. This is essential for the design and planning process of the project that takes place in a second phase.
PHASE 2
SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION DESIGN
The second phase aimed to design two spatial distribution alternatives for Los Chillos Operational Center, based on the NTE INEN 2849-1 standard “Universal accessibility and design for all”. As a result, the architectural planimetries and a document of recommendations are presented. The center is located in the June 6 park, Conocoto, on Marqueza de Solanda street and currently functions as a UPC.
